Getting Lost in Lucerne – Wanderlust @53

“What you’ve done becomes the judge of what you’re going to do – especially in other people’s minds. When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.”– William Least Heat Moon

Another start of a beautiful day in Lucerne, Switzerland.

This is where the small boats and yachts dock in the city centre.

Here are a few iconic landmarks that can be seen in Lucerne.

This is the Chapel Bridge and Water Tower, a covered wooden footbridge on the River Reuss, going diagonally in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. This bridge is so beautiful with all the flowers decorating it.

On August 18, 1993, about 2/3 of this bridge was destroyed by fire. This bridge has since been restored.

The Spreuer Bridge is also a covered wooden bridge but is not as popular as the Chapel Bridge.

As you can see here in the triangular portion of the roof, there are some restored paintings.

This is a shop in the midway of the Spreuer Bridge.

The water spike in Lucerne. These are lowered into or withdrawn from the water in order to regulate the water level in Lake Lucerne.

This is the Lion Monument which is a dying lion carved out of a wall of sandstone rocks. This monument is visited regularly by tourists and locals alike. It commemorates the Swiss guards who were massacred in the 1792 French revolution.

The Beautiful building architecture and structures of Lucerne. Church, shops, restaurants and streetart.

Where we got our souvenirs of authentic Swiss watch, T-shirts and fridge magnets at Harry’s Souvenirs.

From day til night we were walking and we literally got lost in Switzerland. We were just going around in circles, so my husband and I tried to retrace our steps. I was afraid that it might get dark real soon and we were in a foreign country, not knowing any of the county’s official languages.

After a few more minutes we finally recognised where we were phew 😅 .

Tired and hungry, we saw this restaurant, Ristorante Mamma Leoni. Pizza and salad for dinner turned out to be very yummy.

A few more minutes and we were back in the comfort of our hotel room at last.

What a day and what an experience!

Have you ever been lost in a foreign country? Scary isn’t it… what’s your story?
